February News at The Groom Room

Dog of the Month
This little lad is here to tell you that you don't have to conform to classic breed styling - he is a Bichon Frise, yet his family prefers a shorter, more practical style as his picture shows.
At this time of the year every walk brings him back covered in mud! And this style is quick to wash down and easy to brush.
Don't be shy of making a special request, a good grooming salon will always strive to style a pooch to your taste where possible.A Job Opportunity for an Experienced Groomer

Thank you All Applicants for "Groomers Assistant" Post
We were overwhelmed by well over a hundred applications for this recently advertised post, and would just like to thank everyone for taking the time and trouble to apply.
And congratulations to Rebecca who has now begun her induction trial within the post. As well as an extensive knowledge of dogs, Rebecca has already put her wider Animal Management training to good use, bathing and grooming a rabbit!
Recreational Activities - Great Fun for You and Your Dog!
And its not just for Collies either! Dogs (and people) of all shapes and sizes can enjoy a special bond with one another as you teach your dog simple tricks that you both can enjoy.
- Dogs love to jump, it doesn't have to be a hurdle, it could be a log in the woods while you're out walking. It makes a great photo too!
- A dogs nose is said to be up to a hundred times more sensitive than ours, and they love to put that nose to good use! Why not teach your dog to "Track"? If someone walks a line between two points, your dog can be taught to put nose to the ground and follow the track, its amazing to watch and even more exciting to learn to teach your dog this skill.
- Would you like your dog to walk to heel? Whether it's "fancy" heelwork like you see at the Obedience Championships at Crufts, or simply walking beside you without a lead, its great to have the kind of relationship with your dog where he's happy to please you and be with you.
- Most dogs love a tasty treat, so why not put this love to good use and teach some tricks. Its great to have the basics like Stand, Sit, Down and Come when Called as these form the basis for a happy and relaxed life together. After this the world is your oyster as far as teaching tricks goes - Sit up and Beg, Dance on your Backlegs, and Play Dead are just the tip of the iceburg, If Kate and Gin on the TV could do it, so can you!!
Your groomer or vet can point you in the direction of a local training school if you fancy some moral support and helpful direction in learning how to train your dog something new and exciting. Go on, have a go, every dog deserves some stimulation and exercise, they get bored too!
